MLS Preview: FC Dallas (9-9-6) at St. Louis City SC (14-9-2)

FC Dallas recorded a 2-0 home win over St. louis City SC on June 7, the club’s sixth straight regular-season win over expansion opposition. FC Dallas has won 15 of its last 21 regular-season matches against expansion sides (D2 L4) dating back to April 2011.

St. Louis City SC has won nine of its first 13 home MLS matches (D1 L3), winning all nine times in which its scored multiple goals at CITYPARK, including eight matches scoring three or more. No other MLS team has more than six home matches with at least three goals this season.

FC Dallas is unbeaten in six straight matches in all competitions (W3 D3, including one penalty shoot-out loss). Only one of those matches was on the road, a 1-1 draw at the Seattle Sounders FC on July 15, as FC Dallas’ last five matches have been played at Toyota Stadium.

St. Louis City SC scored its 50th goal in its 25th match, the fastest any expansion team has reached 50 goals in league history. In fact, only three previous teams reached the 50-goal mark in their expansion season: Atlanta United FC (70) in 2017, Los Angeles Football Club (68) in 2018 and the Chicago Fire (62) in 1998.

Nkosi Tafari scored a 97th-minute winner on Saturday for FC Dallas after scoring a 94th-minute equalizer in May. Tafari is one of two players this season to score multiple result-changing goals in the 94th minute or later (Sean Zawadzki) after no player had done so in a single season since 2018 (Luciano Acosta).
