MLS Preview: D. C. United (7-9-5) at FC Dallas (8-7-5)

This will be the first meeting between FC Dallas and D. C. United in exactly four years, since FC Dallas won, 2-0, on July 4, 2019. FC Dallas is unbeaten in eight straight home matches against D. C. United (W6 D2), with D. C. United’s last win in Dallas coming in September 2007.

FC Dallas has won six of its last nine home matches (D2 L1), including recording 2-0 wins in each of its last two matches at Toyota Stadium. FC Dallas has not kept three straight home clean sheets since May-July 2015 and hasn’t recorded three straight shutout wins at home since march-April 2013.

D. C. United has won only three of its last 11 MLS matches (D3 L5) after a three-match winning streak in April. D. C. United has lost three of its last four MLS matches (W1) after losing just two of its previous 10 (W5 D3).

Sam Junqua’s 90th-minute strike on Saturday was the first time FC Dallas has scored a goal from outside the box this season. FC Dallas has attempted only 72 shots from outside the box this season, with only Charlotte FC and Chicago Fire (64 each) taking fewer.

Half of Christian Benteke’s four attempts on Saturday against Nashville SC were headers. Overall, Benteke has attempted 24 headed shots this season, 11 more than any other MLS player, though only five of those have been on target.
