- Starter Seth Lugo tossed 6.0 scoreless frames and allowed just 3 hits in his 5th win of the season…he fanned 4 to push his strikeout total to 107, a new career high in a season…it was his 12th quality start of 2023.
- Xander Bogaerts hit a 2-run home run in the 6th inning to give the Padres a 3-0 lead (his 16th HR of 2023), and Garrett Cooper went 2-for-3 against his former team.
Robert Suarez appeals suspension after being ejected on Wednesday for a sticky substance
- Robert Suarez was ejected from Wednesday’s game as he entered the game in the 8th…he was ejected by umpire Crew Chief Todd Tichenor and was observed to have a sticky substance on his glove hand side in the general wrist area.
- Said Suarez postgame, “Like any day game, I put on some sunscreen, and that’s what they saw…I definitely don’t use any illegal substance, any banned substance at all.” …MLB announced today he’ll appeal his 10-game suspension and continue to be eligible to play until a resolution is reached. Padres are only team in baseball to not have a 4+ game win streak
