Mets roster moves

FLUSHING, N.Y., – The New York Mets today announced the club has claimed right-handed pitcher Yoan López off waivers from Miami and optioned him to Triple-A Syracuse. To make room on the 40-man roster, left-handed pitcher Joey Lucchesi has been placed on the 60-Day Injured List.

López, 29, appeared in 113 games for Arizona from 2018-2021, posting a 2-8 record with one save and a 4.25 ERA (48 earned runs/101.2 innings). This offseason, he made three scoreless appearances for Aguilas Cibaenas in the Dominican Winter League, allowing just two hits in 2.1 innings pitched. He was initially signed by the Diamondbacks as a non-drafted free agent in 2015.

The Cuban right-hander spent most of the 2021 season at Gwinnett, Atlanta’s Triple-A affiliate, where he pitched to a 3.03 ERA (11 earned runs/32.2 innings) in 32 appearances.

Lucchesi, 28, is recovering from Tommy John surgery, which he underwent on June 24 of last season.
