Los Angeles Angels sign catcher Travis d’Arnaud

ANAHEIM – The Angels have signed catcher Travis d’Arnaud to a two-year, $12 million contract. In a corresponding move, they have designated right-handed pitcher Guillo Zuñiga for assignment.

d’Arnaud, 35, is coming off his 12th major league season in 2024, his fifth with Atlanta, where he batted .238 (73-for-307) with 40 runs, 16 doubles, 15 home runs, and 48 RBI in 99 games. His 15 home runs were tied for fifth among National League catchers. Behind the plate, d’Arnaud caught 706.2 innings over 89 appearances and threw out 19.1% of attempted base stealers. In the postseason, he played in both of Atlanta’s Wild Card Series games against San Diego, going 1-for-5 with a double.

A Long Beach, CA native, d’Arnaud was originally drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the first round (37th overall) of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft out of Lakewood High School. He debuted in the major leagues with the New York Mets on August 17, 2013. d’Arnaud won a Silver Slugger Award in 2020 and was a National League All-Star in 2022. He has appeared in 57 postseason games and was a member of the Braves’ 2021 World Series Championship team. In 884 career regular season games (797 as a catcher), he has a .248 batting average (753-for-3032) with 157 doubles, 123 home runs, and 438 RBI, playing for the Mets (2013-19), Dodgers (2019), Rays (2019), and Braves (2020-24).
