Guardians sign C Meibrys Viloria

CLEVELAND, OH – The Cleveland Guardians today announced the following transaction:

Signed free agent C MEIBRYS VILORIA to a Minor League contract with a non-roster invitation to 2023 Major League Spring Training camp.

Viloria, 25, split the 2022 season in the Texas Rangers organization following eight seasons in the Kansas City Royals system from 2014-21. Last season, he batted .280 (49-for-175) with 13 2B, 5 HR & 28 RBI in 54 games at Triple-A Round Rock (.422/.440/.862), appearing in 26 games (18 GS at C) for the Rangers over two stints in the Majors. The Cartagena, Colombia native was signed as an international amateur free agent by KC in July 2013, debuting with the Royals in 2018. He has appeared in 93 career ML games with KC and Texas and for his Minor League career he owns a career slash line of .274/.362/.400/.762. The left-handed hitter entered the 2019 season rated as the no. 14 prospect in the KC farm system (Baseball America).
