San Francisco, Calif. – The San Francisco Giants selected first baseman/left-handed pitcher Reggie Crawford (University of Connecticut) with the 30th overall selection in the 2022 First-Year Player Draft, the club announced tonight.

The 6-4, 235-pound Crawford missed all of the 2022 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery he had last fall. Across his two prior seasons at the University of Connecticut, the 21-year-old power-hitting first baseman and hard-throwing pitcher batted .309 (81-for-262) with 42 runs scored, 18 doubles, one triple, 14 home runs and 78 RBI in 64 games. On the mound, he posted a 2.25 ERA in 8.0 innings along with 17 strikeouts and just four walks in seven appearances (one start).

Crawford clubbed a Big East-high 13 homers and 62 RBI in 2021 while hitting .295 en route to an All-Big East Second Team selection. He also made six appearances on the mound and posted a 2.35 ERA. He was selected to the USA Collegiate National Team roster and threw 4.0-scoreless innings, allowing just one hit with zero walks and eight strikeouts.

With their second pick (66th overall) in tonight’s draft, the Giants selected left-handed pitcher Carson Whisenhunt out of East Carolina (NC). Whisenhunt, 21, was declared ineligible for the 2022 season.

The 6-3, 209-pound left-hander had a strong sophomore campaign in 2021, posting a 3.77 ERA and 79 strikeouts in 62.0 innings pitched. He played for Team USA, was named to the preseason Golden Spikes Award watch list and was a preseason First-Team All-America selection.

Whisenhunt was number 30 on MLB Pipeline’s draft prospects list entering the 2022 draft.
