Brewers acquire outfielder Jesse Winker and infielder Abraham Toro from Mariners

Send second baseman Kolten Wong and cash to Seattle

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Brewers have acquired outfielder Jesse Winker and infielder Abraham Toro from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for second baseman Kolten Wong and cash. The announcement was made by Senior Vice President and General Manager Matt Arnold.

Winker, 29, is a career .270 hitter (.374 OBP/.463 SLG/.836 OPS) with 80 HR and 243 RBI in 549 games with Cincinnati (2017-21) and Seattle (2022). He enjoyed his best season in 2021 as he batted .305 with 24 HR and 71 RBI in 110 games with the Reds and was the starting left fielder for the National League in the All-Star Game (.394 OBP/.556 SLG/.949 OPS). He was an All-MLB Team finalist in 2020 and 2021.

The left-handed hitter owns a career .288 batting average with 67 HR against right-handed pitching (.388 OBP/.496 SLG/.885 OPS) and is a career .344 hitter (32-for-93) with 5 HR and 14 RBI in 32 games at American Family Field (.440 OBP/.591 SLG/1.032 OPS).

Toro, a switch-hitter, turns 26 on Dec. 20. He has played four Major League seasons with Houston (2019-21) and Seattle (2021-22), making starts at second base (98g), third base (83g) and first base (5g). He recorded his best season in 2021 when he produced 11 HR and 46 RBI in 95 games (335 at-bats). 

Wong, 32, played two seasons with Milwaukee (2021-22), batting .262 with 29 HR, 97 RBI and 29 SB in 250 games. He signed as a free agent with the Brewers on Feb. 5, 2021 after playing his first eight Major League seasons with St. Louis (2013-20).
