The Toronto Blue Jays have signed the 19th overall pick of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft, RHP Gunnar Hoglund.
Hoglund, 21, was selected by the Pirates in the 36th round of the 2018 draft out of Fivay High School in Hudson, FL, but opted to attend the University of Mississippi. In his sophomore season (2020), Hoglund was 3-0 with a 1.16 ERA prior to baseball being shut down by COVID-19 in March. The 6-4, 220 lb. native of Dunedin, FL, struck out 96 batters in 62.2 innings, with a 4-2 record and a 2.87 ERA in college before undergoing Tommy John surgery in May.
