Ben Gamel agrees to terms on contract for 2022

The Pittsburgh Pirates today announced that outfielder Ben Gamel has agreed to terms on a oneyear contract for the 2022 season, thus avoiding salary arbitration.

The 29-year-old Gamel hit .255 (83-for-326) with 17 doubles, three triples, eight home runs and 26 RBI while producing a .352 OBP in 111 games with the Pirates last season after being claimed off waivers from Cleveland on May 9.

Gamel made 66 starts in left field, 12 in right field and eight in center field for the Pirates in 2021 and produced a .274 average, eight homers and 25 RBI in those 86 games.

Originally selected by New York (AL) in the 10th round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft, Gamel made his Major League debut with the Yankees in 2016 before being traded to Seattle on August 31 of that season. After spending the 2017 and 2018 campaigns with Seattle, Gamel played with Milwaukee in 2019 and 2020 before joining the Cleveland organization prior to 2021.
