SAN DIEGO, Calif. — The Oakland Athletics selected first baseman Ryan Noda from the Los Angeles Dodgers organization in the first round of the Major League portion of the Rule 5 Draft, the club announced today. The A’s also chose right-handed pitcher Joelvis Del Rosario from the Pittsburgh organization in the first round of the Triple-A Phase.
Noda was selected from the Triple-A Oklahoma City roster with the second overall pick of the Major League Phase of the Rule 5 Draft. The 26-year-old left-handed hitter was a non-roster invitee with the Dodgers last spring and batted .259 with 25 home runs, 90 RBI, and 20 stolen bases with Oklahoma City this season. Originally selected by the Blue Jays in the 15th round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Cincinnati, Noda was traded to Los Angeles on Feb. 23, 2021, as a player to be named later in the Aug. 31, 2020 Ross Stripling trade. Across five minor league seasons, he is batting .264 with a .407 on-base percentage, 94 home runs, 361 RBI, and 58 stolen bases in 555 games as a first baseman and outfielder.
Del Rosario, 21, was selected from the Single-A Bradenton roster in the first round of the Triple-A Phase of the Rule 5 Draft. The right-hander was signed by Pittsburgh out of the Dominican Republic on Jan. 25, 2018, and is 12-8 with a 3.40 ERA in 51 career games in the Pirates organization. He went 7-4 with a 3.68 ERA with 76 strikeouts and 25 walks in 20 games, including 19 starts, with Bradenton this season.
The A’s did not have any players selected by other organizations in the Major League or Triple-A portions of the draft.
