OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland Athletics recalled right-handed pitcher Domingo Tapia from Triple-A Las Vegas, selected infielder Dermis Garcia from Las Vegas and optioned left-handed pitcher Zach Logue to Las Vegas, the club announced today.
Tapia joins the A’s for the third time this year and has no decisions and a 14.73 ERA in three relief appearances. He pitched once during his last stint, allowing two runs on a hit and three walks in 2.1 innings against Seattle on June 22. The 30-year-old right-hander did not allow a run in four games and 5.1 innings after returning to Las Vegas on June 23 and had a 2.04 ERA and .562 opponents OPS in 16 relief appearances overall with the Aviators. Tapia began the season at Triple-A Omaha in the Kansas City organization and has a 2.38 ERA and .575 OPS in 21 relief appearances overall at Triple-A.
Garcia is batting .251 with eight home runs and 30 RBI in 54 games with Las Vegas and will be making his Major League debut. He was a non-roster invitee with the A’s this spring after signing a minor league deal on Nov. 19, 2021. The 24-year-old right-handed hitter was ranked by MLB.com as the top prospect for the 2014 international signing period and signed with the New York Yankees organization on July 2, 2014. Garcia is a .230 career hitter with 101 home runs and 276 RBI in 469 games in seven seasons in the minors. With Las Vegas this year, he has started 34 games at first base and 14 at designated hitter. Garcia has 232 career games at first base and 44 at third base.
Logue was recalled yesterday and started and won against Houston, allowing two runs on three hits and a walk in 5.0 innings. He is 3-4 with a 5.16 ERA in seven games, six starts, over four stints with the A’s in his Major League debut. Logue is 3-1 with a 5.22 ERA and 1.017 OPS in 10 starts with Las Vegas.
