OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s placed catcher/first baseman Stephen Vogt on the 10-day injured list with a sprained right knee and reinstated catcher Austin Allen from the Covid-19 injured list, the club announced today. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, the A’s designated right-handed pitcher Miguel Romero for assignment. The A’s also announced that catcher/first baseman Christian Bethancourt had the substitute player designation removed and is now officially on the 40-man roster.

Allen was 1-for-6 in four games with the A’s before going on the restricted list last Friday. He was transferred to the Covid-19 IL on Monday.

Vogt was 1-for-14 with a home run in six games with the A’s before injuring his knee in the eighth inning yesterday against Baltimore.

Romero has a 9.53 ERA and .462 opponents batting average in four relief appearances with Triple-A Las Vegas. He has allowed six runs on 12 hits in 5.2 innings. The 27-year-old right-hander was signed by the A’s out of Cuba in 2017 and is 12-11 with 19 saves and a 4.91 ERA in 135 games, including 19 starts, in five seasons in the A’s farm system.
