Tempe, Arizona – Matt Moore, a left-handed pitcher, has signed a $7.55 million, one-year deal with the Angels. RHP Davis Daniel (right shoulder strain) has been placed on the 60-day injured list in a corresponding 40-man roster move.
In his first season as a reliever, Moore, 33, pitched in 63 games for Texas in 2022, going 5-2 with five saves, a 1.95 ERA (74 IP – 16 ER), and 83 strikeouts. He ranked fifth in relief innings, eighth in ERA, eighth in strikeouts, and fourteenth in opponent batting average (.187). Additionally, he had the third-lowest ERA for a reliever (min. 70 innings) in Rangers history, trailing only Tanner Scheppers (1.88 ERA in 2013) and Jim Kern (1.57 ERA in 1979).
Moore, who was born in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., made his Major League debut with the Rays in 2011 after being selected by Tampa Bay in the eighth round of the 2007 Draft. He was an All-Star in the A.L. in 2013 and has played in 268 games (164 starts) in 11 MLB seasons with the Rays (2011-2016), Giants (2016-2017), Rangers (2018, 2022), Tigers (2019), and Phillies. He has also been an All-Star in the A.L. Moore started 13 games in 2020 for the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks, the NPB Pacific League champions.
