ARLINGTON, TX – The Texas Rangers have announced key roster transactions ahead of their matchup against the St. Louis Cardinals at Globe Life Field.

Roster Transactions:

  • Nathan Eovaldi, RHP – Placed on the 15-day Injured List (retroactive to May 29) with right posterior elbow inflammation.
  • Codi Heuer (#54), RHP – Selected from Triple-A Round Rock.
  • Tucker Barnhart, C – Designated for assignment.

Nathan Eovaldi Placed on Injured List

Veteran right-hander Nathan Eovaldi, 35, was removed from his May 27 start against Toronto after tossing two scoreless innings due to right elbow inflammation.

Through 12 starts in 2025, Eovaldi has been dominant, posting:

  • 4-3 record
  • 1.56 ERA (12 ER, 69.1 IP) – 2nd-best among MLB-qualified pitchers
  • 73 strikeouts, 10 walks
  • 0.81 WHIP, .185 opponent batting average

Eovaldi’s ERA trails only Kansas City’s Kris Bubic (1.45), reinforcing his position as one of the league’s top starters this season.

Codi Heuer Joins Rangers Bullpen

Right-hander Codi Heuer, 28, has been selected from Triple-A Round Rock, reinforcing the Rangers’ relief corps.

In 19 appearances for Round Rock, Heuer has recorded:

  • 2-1 record
  • 3.27 ERA (8 ER, 22.0 IP)
  • 25 strikeouts, 11 walks, 1.32 WHIP
  • .222 opponent batting average

Heuer, originally drafted by the Chicago White Sox in 2018 (6th round), made his MLB debut in 2020 and compiled a 10-4 record with a 3.56 ERA in 86 career games for the White Sox (2020-21) and Cubs (2021).

After recovering from Tommy John surgery (2022) and a fractured elbow (2023), Heuer is set to make his first MLB appearance since September 2021.

Tucker Barnhart Designated for Assignment

Veteran catcher Tucker Barnhart, 34, has been designated for assignment after appearing in eight games for Texas this season.

Barnhart posted a .231 batting average (3-for-13) with one walk, appearing in seven games at catcher and one as a relief pitcher (May 2 vs. Seattle).

The Rangers have seven days to trade, release, or outright Barnhart to Triple-A Round Rock.

Rangers Roster Outlook

Following these moves, Texas maintains its 40-man roster limit, with three players—Cody Bradford, Jon Gray, and Josh Sborz—on the 60-day Injured List. The team will play with 25 active players in today’s series finale against St. Louis.
