BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox have announced several roster updates, including the placement of right-handed pitcher Justin Slaten on the 15-day injured list and the selection of infielder/outfielder Nate Eaton to the active Major League roster.

  • Justin Slaten, RHP – Placed on 15-day Injured List (retroactive to May 29) with right shoulder inflammation.
  • Luis Guerrero, RHP – Recalled from Triple-A Worcester.
  • Nate Eaton, INF/OF – Selected to active roster from Worcester; will wear #40.
  • Nick Sogard, INF/OF – Optioned to Worcester.
  • Blake Sabol, C – Designated for assignment.

Justin Slaten’s Injury & Season Performance

Slaten, 27, has been a reliable presence in the Red Sox bullpen, recording a 3.47 ERA (9 ER, 23.1 IP) across 24 appearances this season. He has struck out 16 batters, maintaining an impressive 0.90 WHIP and limiting opponents to a .171 batting average.

Originally drafted by Texas in 2019 (3rd round), Slaten has posted a 3.09 ERA (27 ER, 78.2 IP) with 74 strikeouts in 68 career MLB games—all with Boston.

Luis Guerrero Joins Red Sox Bullpen

Guerrero, 24, returns to the Major League squad after pitching in four games for Boston this season, allowing just one earned run in 5.1 innings with four strikeouts.

The Dominican Republic native was selected by Boston in the 17th round of the 2021 Draft and has recorded a 0.59 ERA (1 ER, 15.1 IP) across 13 career MLB appearances.

Nate Eaton Promoted to Major League Roster

Eaton, 28, has been a versatile asset for Triple-A Worcester, playing 53 games while batting .277 (54-for-195) with 16 doubles, one triple, five home runs, and 27 RBIs.

The Virginia native was originally drafted by Kansas City in 2018 (21st round) and has made 72 career MLB appearances, previously with the Royals (2022-23).

Nick Sogard Optioned, Blake Sabol DFA’d

Sogard, 27, has played 14 games for Boston this season, hitting .245 (12-for-49) with three doubles and two RBIs. He now returns to Triple-A Worcester, where he has hit .188 (19-for-101) over 28 games.

Sabol, 27, is designated for assignment after appearing in eight MLB games this season. The left-handed catcher previously played for San Francisco (2023-24) and has hit .237 across 129 career MLB games.

With Guerrero reinforcing the bullpen and Eaton adding depth to the lineup, the Red Sox continue adjusting their roster ahead of key June matchups.
