CLEVELAND, OH – The Cleveland Guardians today announced the following transaction:
Acquired OF ESTEVAN FLORIAL from the New York Yankees in exchange for RHP CODY MORRIS.
Florial, 26, spent most of the 2023 season at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, batting .284 (116-for-409) with 23 2B, 28 HR, 79 RBI, 83 runs and 25 stolen bases in 101 games (.380/.565/.945). He was named an International League Postseason All-Star, leading the Yankees organization in homers, OPS, slugging pct. and extra-base hits (55). He finished second in the Int’l League in OPS, third in slugging and sixth in XBH and HR. He has spent parts of the last four seasons since 2020 at the Major League level with the Yankees, spending the final three weeks of the 2023 campaign in the Bronx. The left-handing hitting native of Barahona, DR participated in the 2017 Future’s Game and entered the 2019 season ranked as the top prospect in the Yankees system (57th overall in MLB), according to MLB Pipleline.
