MLS Preview: D.C. United (4-4-2) at FC Cincinnati (6-1-3)

FC Cincinnati beat D. C. United, 5-2, last October in the last meeting between the sides. It was FC Cincinnati’s first win over D. C. United after failing to win any of the first seven meetings (D3 L4). FC Cincinnati scored ore goals in the last meeting (5) than it did in the first seven combined (4).

FC Cincinnati has won a club record five straight home league matches and has recorded eight wins in its last 11 league games at TQL Stadium (D2 L1). Those eight victories equal FC Cincinnati’s win total in its first 54 home MLS games (D16 L30).

D C. United has won four straight games in all competitions after recording just four victories in its previous 33 games (D8 L21) dating back to early May last year. D. C. United has recorded just one longer winning streak in the last 15 years, a run of five straight wins in September – October 2018.

Alvaro Barreal and Luciano Acosta each set up three chances for teammates in FC Cincinnati’s draw at New England Revolution on Saturday, with Barreal providing the team’s only assist. Barreal (26) and Acosta (21) are one of two pairs of teammates with more than 20 chances created so far this season (R. Guald & J. Gressel – Van).

Christian Benteke won 15 aerial duels in D. C. United’s win of Charlotte FC on Saturday to go along with a goal. Benteke is the sixth player with 15 aerial duels in an MLS match since the start of the 2010 season, with no player recording more in any match.
