The Devils and Detroit face-off for the second time this season. The Eastern Conference foes met on Sat. Oct. 15, New Jersey’s home opener, but it was the Wings who earned a 5-2 victory over Jersey’s team.

Jersey’s team enters tonight’s contest in a second half of a back-to-back set. It marks the team’s first back-to-back set for the 2022-23 campaign.

The Devils logged a 3-12-2 record in second games played last season for back-to-back sets.

Jersey’s team dressed 11 forwards and seven defensemen over the last three games, while Kevin Bahl was listed as the extra blueliner to start the game.

The Devils haven’t allowed more than 25 shots against in a game this season, and enter Tuesday’s contest ranked first in shots against, per game at 21.3.

Since 1994-95, the franchise’s first Stanley Cup championship, the Devils have finished a season averaging under 25 shots against, per game seven times

The team clinched a playoff berth in six of those seasons, while winning a Stanley Cup championship in 2002-03, plus advancing to the Stanley Cup final in 2000-01. The team didn’t clinch a playoff berth in the shortened (lockout year) in 2012-13.

New Jersey’s shots per game total entering tonight’s contest vs Detroit is 39.5, which ranks 1st in the NHL. Pittsburgh is second at 39.0.

Since 1994-95, the team’s highest shots per game total is 33.1, which was earned in 1999-00. The team then won its second Stanley Cup championship.

The Devils officially announced and revealed their second-ever Adidas Reverse Retro sweater on Thursday, which turns back the clock and nods to the franchise’s Colorado roots.

Side note…On Oct. 12, 2022, Andy Greene officially signed a one-day contract and retired as a Devil. The Trenton, Michigan native’s 923 regular-season games played ranks seventh all-time in franchise history, and third all-time for defensemen in franchise history.
