MLS Preview: Vancouver Whitecaps FC (1-5-1) at Austin FC (4-1-2)

The Whitecaps won both meetings with Austin in 2021, each by a 2-1 scoreline. Austin was one of two teams the Whitecaps beat twice last season (Portland).

Austin FC came from 2-0 down to win, 3-2, at D.C. United with goals in the 80th, 85th and 90th minutes. Austin is the sixth team in MLS history to win a match after trailing by two goals entering the 80th minute, the fifth to do so in the regular season.

Following its 2-1 loss to Montreal on Saturday, Vancouver has just four points and a minus eight goal difference this season, both the worst through seven games of a season in the club’s MLS history.

Maximiliano Urruti has scored seven goals in 18 career regular season games against Vancouver, three more than against any other team in his MLS career. Urruti’s seven goals against Vancouver are the second-most by any player against the Whitecaps in MLS after Chris Wondolowski (14).

Brian White recorded his first goal involvement of the season on Saturday against Montreal, scoring just after the hour mark. White either scored (11) or assisted (4) on 15 of Vancouver’s final 25 goals in the 2021 regular season.
