Dodgers select Darien Nuñez

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Dodgers selected the contract of left-handed pitcher Darien Nuñez and optioned right-handed pitcher Mitch White to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

 

Nuñez, 28, next appearance will be his Major League debut as he will have his contract selected for the first time in his career. The southpaw from Las Tunas, Cuba has appeared in 16 games this season between Double-A Tulsa and Triple-A Oklahoma City, going a combined 5-0 with a 2.70 ERA (9 ER/30.0 IP) and 42 strikeouts against 15 walks. He is a perfect 5-0 with Oklahoma City, while recording a 1.00 WHIP with hitters batting .144 (14-for-97) against him. In 61 minor league contests, he is 8-2 with a 2.37 ERA (26 ER/98.2 IP) and 154 strikeouts. He was originally signed by the Dodgers as a minor league free agent on April 16, 2018.

 

White, 25, was recalled for the fourth time yesterday and pitched 4.0 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits with five strikeouts. On the season, he is 0-0 with a 3.92 ERA (8 ER/18.1 IP) and 19 strikeouts in 13 games for the Dodgers. In five minor league seasons with the Dodgers, he is a combined 14-15 with a 3.93 ERA and 322 strikeouts in 80 games (69 starts).
