The New York Yankees today announced that they have acquired RHP Jake Cousins from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for cash considerations.

Cousins, 29, posted a 4.82 ERA (9.1IP, 10H, 5R/ER, 10BB, 7K, 1HR) in nine relief appearances with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2023. He spent the majority of the season in the minors, combining to go 3-2 with a 6.35 ERA (28.1IP, 29H, 21R/20ER, 18BB, 43K, 4HR) in 29 relief appearances with Triple-A Nashville, ACL Brewers and Triple-A Sugar Land. The right-handed pitcher began the season in the Brewers organization before he was claimed off waivers by the Houston Astros on July 31. Cousins was designated for assignment on August 29 and outrighted on September 1. Following the season, he signed with the White Sox as a minor league free agent on December 5. In seven spring training appearances with the White Sox, Cousins went 0-1 with a 1.29 ERA (7.0IP, 5H, 4R/1ER, 2BB, 11K, 1HR).

Over parts of three Major League seasons with Milwaukee (2021-23), he has gone 3-1 with a 3.08 ERA (52.2IP, 36H, 18R/ER, 37BB, 72K, 5HR) in 51 relief appearances. Cousins has held opponents to a career .195/.346/.324 (36-for-185) slash line.

The St. Charles, Ill., native was originally selected by the Washington Nationals in the 20th round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Pennsylvania.
