RHP Adrián Martínez designated for assignment

OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s claimed infielder Tyler Nevin off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles and designated right-handed pitcher Adrián Martínez for assignment, the club announced today.

Nevin hit .333 with two home runs, seven RBI and a .841 OPS in 23 games this spring with the Orioles before he was designated for assignment on Thursday. He spent 2023 in the Tigers organization, batting .200 with two home runs and 10 RBI in 41 games with the Tigers and .326 with 15 home runs, 58 RBI and a .943 OPS with Triple-A Toledo. Nevin is a .203 career hitter with five home runs and 29 RBI in 105 career games in the majors with Baltimore (2021-22) and Detroit (2023). The 26-year-old right-handed hitter has appeared in 58 games at third base, 18 at first base, 13 in left field and two in right field during his big league career.

Martínez allowed four runs on three hits and a walk in 1.1 innings in two spring training appearances before he was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas on March 3. He made one relief appearance for the Aviators on Friday against Reno (0.2 ip, 1 bb). The 27-year-old right-hander went 0-2 with a 4.75 ERA in 22 games, including one start, with the A’s last year and is 4-8 with a 5.51 ERA in 34 games, including 13 starts, in two seasons in the majors with Oakland.
