The Yankees announced on Thursday that they have acquired international signing money from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for OF Billy McKinney.
McKinney, 29, batted .227 (29-for-128) with 19R, 3 doubles, 1 triple, 6HR, 14RBI and 17BB in 48 games for the Yankees in 2023. Over parts of six Major League seasons with the Yankees (2018, ’23), Toronto Blue Jays (2018-20), Milwaukee Brewers (2021), New York Mets (2021), Los Angeles Dodgers (2021) and Oakland Athletics (2022), the left-handed hitter has batted .209 (171-for-818) with 106R, 36 doubles, 5 triples, 34HR, 86RBI and 83BB in 311 career games. McKinney was re-signed by the Yankees as a minor league free agent on December 9, 2023. The Dallas, Tex., native was originally selected by the Oakland Athletics in the first round (24th overall) of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft.
