PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES
The Phillies scored six unanswered runs to erase a 5-0 deficit, the largest come-from-behind win in Phillies Postseason history…their previous high was a 4-run comeback in Game 4 of the 2022 NLCS vs. SD, Game 2 of the 2010 NLDS vs. CIN and Game 1 of the 1980 World Series vs. KC…said another way, they have won while overcoming deficits of 4 runs (or more) twice in their last 3 games, compared to twice in the first 112 Postseason games in Club history…this was the 115th Postseason game in Phillies history, and they’ve fallen behind by 5+ runs in 12 of them and never came back to tie one (regardless of final) until tonight.

• The Phillies became the sixth team to win a World Series game after facing a deficit of 5 runs (or more), joining the Angels in 2002 Game 6 vs. SF (trailed 5-0, won 6-5), Yankees in 1996 Game 4 at ATL (trailed 6-0, won 8-6), Blue Jays in 1993 Game 4 at PHI (trailed 12-7, won 15-14), Brooklyn Dodgers in 1956 Game 2 vs. NYY (trailed 6-0, won 13-8) and the Philadelphia Athletics in 1929 Game 4 vs. CHC (trailed 8-0, won 10-8)…teams trailing by 5+ are now 6-220 (.027).

• The Phillies improved to 6-5 all-time in Postseason extra-inning games and have won four straight, beginning with Game 4 of the 1981 NLDS vs. MTL…they are 1-2 all-time in World Series extra-inning games…five of the six Postseason games in franchise history against the Astros have gone to extra innings.

• Per Stats LLC, the Phillies became the second team in MLB history to trail 5-0 (or worse) on the road against a former MVP-winning opposing starter and come back to win (reg. season or postseason)…they joined the Tigers on July 11, 1918, who rallied from a 6-0 deficit to beat Walter Johnson and the Senators.

• The Phillies became the second team this Postseason with a come-from-behind win of 5 runs (or more), joining the Mariners in Game 2 of the Wild Card Series at TOR…the only other Postseason with two such comebacks was in 2002.

GAME 1 WINNERS
In World Series history, the Game 1 winner has gone on to win the Fall Classic 63.8 pct. (74 of 116) of the time…this does not account for Game 1 between the Chicago Cubs and Detroit Tigers in 1907, which ended in a 3-3 tie after 12 innings due to darkness…the Game 1 winner has won the last four World Series, 16 of 19 since 2003, 21 of 25 since 1997, 23 of 28 since 1993 and 28 of 34 since 1987…said another way, the Game 1 winner has gone on to win the World Series 82.4 pct. of the time since 1987, compared to 56.1 pct. (46 of 82) from 1903-86.

• According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the Game 1 winner of any best-of-7 Postseason series has gone on to win the series 64.7 pct. (121 of 187) of the time.

• The Phillies improved to 6-2 all-time in Game 1 of the World Series…they are 4-0 in Game 1s this Postseason and 19-7 all-time…their .731 winning pct. in Game 1 ranks 2nd in MLB history (min. 10 games) behind Baltimore (.739).

AARON NOLA
Has allowed 11 runs (all earned) in his last two Postseason starts spanning 9 IP, compared to 1 run (0 ER) in his first two Postseason starts spanning 12.2 IP…is the third in Phillies history to allow 5 runs (or more) in back-to-back Postseason apps, following Cliff Lee (2) spanning 2009-11 and Steve Carlton (2) spanning 1976- 77…four of his 5 runs allowed came on Kyle Tucker homers (solo, 3-run).

• Allowed multiple homers to the same batter for the second time in his career, joining July 18, 2019 vs. LAD (Kiké Hernández)…was the fourth Phillie to allow multiple homers to the same batter in a Postseason game (first to do so on the road), joining Roy Halladay in Game 1 of the 2010 NLCS vs. SF (Cody Ross), Charles Hudson in Game 5 of the 1983 World Series vs. BAL (Eddie Murray) and Bob Walk in Game 1 of the 1980 World Series vs. KC (Willie Aikens).

J.T. REALMUTO
Delivered a go-ahead, solo homer off Luis Garcia in the 10th inning…marked the third extra-inning homer in Phillies Postseason history (first in the World Series), following Lenny Dykstra in Game 5 of the 1993 NLCS at ATL (off Mark Wohlers) and George Vukovich in Game 4 of the 1981 NLDS vs. MTL (off Jeff Reardon)…became the fourth catcher in World Series history to homer in extra innings, joining BOS Carlton Fisk (walk-off) in 1975 Game 6 vs. CIN, STL Tim McCarver in 1964 Game 5 at NYY and Hank Gowdy of the Boston Braves in 1914 Game 3 vs. the Philadelphia Athletics…it marked the third extra-innings homer in Game 1 of a World Series, joining Dusty Rhodes of the New York Giants in 1954 vs. CLE (10th inning) and BOS Rudy York in 1946 at STL (10th).

BRYCE HARPER
The NLCS MVP singled in the 4th inning and has reached base in all 12 games this Postseason and hit safely in 11 straight, beginning with Game 2 of the Wild Card Series at STL…his 20 hits are the most in a single Postseason in Phillies history, extending his lead over Shane Victorino (17) in 2009 and Jayson Werth (17) in 2008…his 11-game hitting streak ties Werth spanning 2008-09 for the 2ndlongest in Phillies Postseason history behind Greg Luzinski (13) from 1976-80.

HOUSTON ASTROS
The Astros allowed six unanswered runs, losing 6-5 in 10 innings after holding a 5-0 lead through the 3rd inning…it marked the first time in Astros Postseason history they lost after holding a lead of 5 runs (or more)…they have five Postseason losses after leading by 4 runs: Game 3 of the 2021 ALDS at CHW, Game 4 of the 2017 ALCS vs. BOS, Game 4 of the 2015 ALDS vs. KC, Game 3 of the 2005 World Series vs. CHW and Game 3 of the 1986 ALCS at NYM…in World Series history, teams fell to 220-6 (.973) when leading by 5 runs (or more), and the Astros were the first team to lose when doing so since the Giants (managed by Dusty Baker) in Game 6 of the 2002 World Series at ANA (led 5-0 through 6½ and lost 6-5).

• The Astros dropped to 8-9 all-time in Postseason extra-inning games and snapped a 4-game winning streak in them…they fell to 2-2 all-time in World Series extra-inning games, snapping a 2-game winning streak…their other World Series loss in extra innings was 2005 Game 3 vs. CHW, losing 7-5 in 14 innings.

• The Astros fell to 9-16 all-time in World Series games, including 3-10 at home.

JUSTIN VERLANDER
Took no decision and remains winless in eight career World Series starts, going 0-6 with a 6.07 ERA (43-IP, 29-ER)…is 15-11 with a 3.69 ERA (202.2-IP, 83-ER) in 34 career Postseason apps (33 starts) and 1-0 with a 7.20 ERA (15-IP, 12-ER) in 3 starts this Postseason…started Game 1 of a World Series for the third time in his career (2006, 2012) and is 0-2 with a 10.29 ERA (14-IP, 16-ER) in those games.

• His 43 IP are the most in World Series history among pitchers with 0 wins…his 6.07 ERA is the highest in World Series history among the 99 pitchers with 30 IP.

• Has allowed 5 runs (or more) twice in 3 starts this Postseason (also Game 1 of the ALDS vs. SEA), compared to twice in 28 starts during the regular season.

Became the first player in Astros history with a multi-HR game in the World Series…marked the 56th multi-HR game in World Series history, first since TB Brandon Lowe in 2020 Game 2 at LAD (Globe Life Field) and first by an outfielder since NYM Michael Conforto in 2015 Game 4 vs. KC…marked the 12th multiHR game in Game 1 of a World Series, first since CLE Roberto Pérez in 2016 vs. CHC…marked the eighth multi-HR game in Astros Postseason history, first since Michael Brantley in Game 4 of the 2020 ALDS vs. OAK (Dodger Stadium)…the previous seven all came in the Division Series…became the third Astro with multiple homers in Game 1 of a Postseason series, joining Carlos Correa in the 2020 ALDS at OAK (Dodger Stadium) and Jose Altuve in the 2017 ALDS vs. BOS.

• Became the first player to homer in back-to-back innings of a World Series game since Albert Pujols in 2011 Game 3 at TEX (3-HR game; 6th, 7th and 9th innings)…according to ESPN Stats & Info, became the fourth player all-time to homer in each of his first 2 PA of a World Series, following SF Pablo Sandoval (3) in 2012, ATL Andruw Jones (2) in 1996 and OAK Gene Tenace (2) in 1972.
