WNBA Preview: Washington Mystics (9-5) at Atlanta Dream (5-8)

There are some moving parts for the Washington Mystics even as they’re on a pretty good roll.

They’re anxious to see how their latest lineup adjustments work as they go for a two-game sweep of the Dream on Friday night in Atlanta.

It’s a rematch from Wednesday, when the Mystics built a 61-33 halftime lead and cruised to a 109-86 home win behind Elena Delle Donne’s 25 points.

The Mystics (9-5) have won four of their last five games.

The Mystics revealed this week that post player Shakira Austin likely is to miss at least three weeks with a hip strain. The first game during that stretch was Wednesday’s outing.

One of those players is rookie guard Abby Meyers, who has played in just three games with the team. She could become more involved in the offense.

Tianna Hawkins likely is to fill some of Austin’s minutes, too, as the Mystics roll out various combinations.

Cheyenne Parker had 28 points for the Dream (5-8) on Wednesday. That couldn’t prevent Atlanta’s losing streak from reaching three games.

Dream coach Tanisha Wright missed Wednesday’s game for personal reasons with Vickie Johnson filling in as acting coach.

Atlanta’s defense has been a disaster of late, allowing more than 100 points in consecutive games. The Mystics shot 53.4 percent from the field on Wednesday, including 50 percent (11 of 22) from behind the arc.

Offensively, guard Danielle Robinson reached the 3,000-point mark for her career Wednesday. Robinson is in her 12th season, though she missed time earlier this season after arthroscopic knee surgery.
