WNBA Preview: Indiana Fever (5-7) at Las Vegas Aces (11-1)

The WNBA-leading Las Vegas Aces are dominating opponents and making the scoreboard work overtime.

The fast-paced Aces (11-1) have won their past four games by an average of 24.3 points, and they will look to continue the winning streak when they host the Indiana Fever on Saturday in the first of back-to-back games between the teams.

Las Vegas is averaging a league-best 92.5 points per game and has tallied at least 90 in 10 of its 12 games.

One of the Aces’ games under 90 came in their lone setback, 94-77 on June 8 to the Connecticut Sun. The other time was in an 84-80 road win over the Fever on June 4.

In Thursday’s 99-79 road trouncing of the Phoenix Mercury, Jackie Young (23 points), Kelsey Plum (21) and A’ja Wilson (20) put a charge in the Las Vegas offense.

Young made a career-best five 3-pointers against Phoenix while reigning league MVP Wilson had 12 rebounds to post her seventh double-double of the campaign.

Indiana (5-7) has matched last season’s victory total and is markedly improved over the 2022 squad that finished 5-31, worst in the league.

The Fever have won four of their past six games and opened a four-game road trip with a solid 80-68 victory over the Seattle Storm on Thursday.

Kelsey Mitchell contributed season highs of 25 points and seven 3-pointers in a contest in which Indiana allowed just 24 second-half points.

NaLyssa Smith added 12 points and 14 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the campaign.

The Fever put up a good fight at home against the Aces in the matchup earlier this month. Indiana led by as many as 10 but Las Vegas outscored the Fever 28-17 in the fourth quarter to rally to the victory.

Wilson had 27 points and 10 rebounds for the Aces, while Mitchell scored 22 for the Fever.

The teams also meet Monday in Las Vegas.
