CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox have signed left-handed pitcher Noah Schultz, their first-round pick (26th overall) in the 2022 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, to a minor-league contract with a $2.8-million signing bonus.

Schultz, 18, entered the draft ranked by Perfect Game as the No. 1 overall prospect in the state of Illinois out of Oswego East (Ill.) High School. The 6-foot-9, 220-pound Schultz made six appearances with Illinois Valley in the Prospect League, going 1-0 with a 0.93 ERA (2 ER/19.1 IP), 37 strikeouts (17.22 per 9.0 IP) and just eight hits allowed. He missed most of his senior season at Oswego East due to illness and inclement weather.

Prior to the draft, Schultz committed to attend Vanderbilt University. He is the second consecutive high-school prospect selected by the White Sox in the first round following shortstop Colson Montgomery in 2021.

Schultz, a native of Aurora, Ill., was recommended by White Sox scout J.J. Lally.
