CLEVELAND – Prior to tonight’s series opener at Cleveland, the Chicago White Sox recalled right-handed pitcher Jesse Scholtens from Class AAA Charlotte. Scholtens takes the roster spot of right-hander Mike Clevinger, who was placed on the 15-day injured list yesterday (retroactive to May 18) with right wrist inflammation.
Scholtens is 2-2 with a 3.99 ERA (17 ER/38.1 IP), .230 (32-139) opponents average and 42 strikeouts (9.86 per 9.0 IP) over seven starts with Charlotte this season. He appeared in two games with the White Sox in April, going 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA (1 ER/3.0 IP) and four strikeouts.
