White Sox recall Davis Martin from Triple-A Charlotte; outright Parker Markel to Charlotte

CHICAGO – Prior to tonight’s series opener vs. Oakland, the Chicago White Sox recalled right-handed pitcher Davis Martin from Class AAA Charlotte and outrighted right-hander Parker Markel to Charlotte.

Martin has made six appearances (three starts) in five stints with the White Sox this season, going 1-3 with a 4.67 ERA (14 ER/27.0 IP) and 20 strikeouts. He has worked 5.0-plus IP in five of his six outings, including a career-high 6.0 in his last outing on July 12 (Game 1) at the Guardians.

Martin is 5-4 with a 3.65 ERA (25 ER/61.2 IP) and 78 strikeouts in 13 starts between Charlotte and Class AA Birmingham this season.

Markel is 4-1 with a 3.82 ERA (14 ER/33.0 IP), 47 strikeouts (12.8 per 9.0 IP), a .211 (26-123) opponents average and two saves in 32 combined relief appearances between Charlotte and Class AAA Las Vegas in the Oakland organization. He was claimed off waivers from the Athletics and optioned to the Knights on June 8. Markel also made three appearances with the A’s from May 30-June 4, throwing 3.0 scoreless IP before being designated for assignment on June 7.

The White Sox 40-man roster decreases to 39.
