SEATTLE – Prior to tonight’s series opener at Seattle, the Chicago White Sox placed right-handed pitcher Mike Clevinger on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to June 15) with right biceps inflammation and recalled right-hander Jesse Scholtens from Class AAA Charlotte.
Scholtens has appeared in five games (one start) over two stints with the White Sox this season, going 0-2 with a 3.24 ERA (6 ER/16.2 IP), .207 (12-58) opponents average and nine strikeouts. He has worked at least 3.0 IP in four of his five appearances with the Sox, including 4.0-plus IP three times. Scholtens is 2-2 with a 4.44 ERA (23 ER/46.2 IP) and 45 strikeouts in nine starts with Charlotte this season.
Clevinger left his last start on Wednesday night at the Dodgers in the fifth inning with right biceps soreness. He is 3-4 with a 3.88 ERA (27 ER/62.2 IP) and 53 strikeouts over 12 starts this season, his first with Chicago.
