KANSAS CITY – Prior to tonight’s series opener at Kansas City, the Chicago White Sox placed right-handed pitcher Lucas Giolito on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to September 1) with a strained left hamstring and recalled right-hander Ryan Burr from Class AAA Charlotte.
Giolito, 27, suffered the injury in the fifth inning of his last start on Tuesday night vs. Pittsburgh. He is 9-9 with a 3.69 ERA (65 ER/158.1 IP), 180 strikeouts (10.23 per 9.0 IP), a .221 (129-585) opponents average, 1.11 WHIP and .279 on-base percentage in 27 starts this season. Giolito ranks among the American League leaders in strikeouts (4th), strikeouts per 9.0 IP (4th), WHIP (5th), opponents average (5th), opponents on-base percentage (5th), opponents OPS (8th, .685) and ERA (10th).
Burr, 27, is 2-1 with a 2.84 ERA (8 ER/25.1 IP), 20 strikeouts and a .193 (16-83) opponents average in 22 appearances (one start) over two stints with the White Sox in 2021.
