BOSTON – Prior to today’s series finale at Boston, the Chicago White Sox placed right-handed pitcher Jesse Scholtens on the 15-day injured list with a left calf strain and recalled right-hander Declan Cronin from Class AAA Charlotte.
Cronin, who turns 26 today, is 3-0 with a 3.83 ERA (22 ER/51.2 IP), two saves and 42 strikeouts in 47 appearances with Charlotte this season. He also has made six relief appearances over two stints with the White Sox in his major-league debut, going 0-0 with an 11.74 ERA (10 ER/7.2 IP) and six strikeouts.
Scholtens, 29, went 1-9 with a 5.29 ERA (50 ER/85.0 IP) and 58 strikeouts over 26 games (11 starts) this season, also his first in the major leagues.
