White Sox make three roster moves

CHICAGO – Prior to tonight’s series opener vs. Minnesota, the Chicago White Sox made the following roster moves:

  • Placed OF Luis Robert on the Paternity List;
  • Selected the contract of OF Mark Payton from Class AAA Charlotte;
  • Transferred LHP Aaron Bummer to the 60-day injured list. Bummer is eligible to be reinstated as early as tomorrow.

            Robert, 25, is hitting .300/.336/.451 (107-357) with 18 doubles, 12 home runs, 56 RBI, 54 runs scored and 11 stolen bases in 90 games this season. He is eligible to return from the Paternity List after one day but may be on for as many as three.

            Payton, 30, is hitting .289/.365/.522 (110-408) with 25 doubles, five triples, 20 home runs, 77 RBI, 74 runs scored and 11 steals over 104 games with Charlotte this season after being signed on March 28. He leads the Knights in numerous offensive categories and ranks among the International League leaders in runs scored (4th), OPS (6th, .887), hits (6th), slugging percentage (7th), triples (T7th) and home runs (T9th).

            Payton, 5-foot-8 and 180 pounds, has appeared in 32 major-league games over parts of two seasons with Cincinnati (2020-21), going 7-40 (.175) with one double and two runs scored. He was selected by the Yankees in the seventh round of the 2013 draft out of the University of Texas.

            Payton, who bats and throws left-handed, was born in Orland Park and attended St. Rita High School. He will wear uniform No. 46.

            Bummer, 29, was placed on the 15-day injured list on June 9 with a left lat strain. He was sent to Charlotte on an injury rehabilitation assignment on Tuesday, where he has made one relief appearance.

            The White Sox 40-man roster remains at 40.
