White Sox claim Parker Markel off waivers from Oakland

CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox have claimed right-handed pitcher Parker Markel off waivers from Oakland and have optioned him to Class AAA Charlotte.

Markel, 31, went 3-0 with a 1.89 ERA (4 ER/19.0 IP), 28 strikeouts (13.26 per 9.0 IP) and a .191 (13-68) opponents average over 17 relief appearances with Class AAA Las Vegas this season. He also made three appearances with the A’s from May 30-June 4, throwing 3.0 scoreless IP, before being designated for assignment on June 7.

Markel, 6-foot-5 and 240 pounds, is 45-28 with a 3.81 ERA (247 ER/584.0 IP) and 573 strikeouts in 286 games (54 starts) over 10 minor-league seasons. He also has appeared in 23 games with Seattle (2019), Pittsburgh (2019) and Oakland (2022), posting a 6.84 ERA (19 ER/25.0 IP) with 27 strikeouts.

He originally was selected by Tampa Bay in the 39th round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft.
