White Sox announce two roster moves

DETROIT – Prior to tonight’s game at Detroit, the Chicago White Sox selected the contract of right-handed pitcher José Ureña from Class AAA Charlotte and placed right-hander Declan Cronin on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to September 6) with blisters on his right hand.

Ureña is scheduled to start tonight’s game at Comerica Park and will wear uniform No. 54.

Ureña, 31, is 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA (8 ER/21.1 IP), 20 strikeouts and just one home run allowed in four starts with Charlotte after signing with the White Sox as a minor-league free agent on August 7. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Ureña opened the season with Colorado and went winless over five starts before being released on April 28. He signed with Washington on May 2 and started 15 games with Class AAA Rochester before his release on August 3.

A native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Ureña is 39-66 with a 4.92 ERA (444 ER/813.0 IP), four saves and 545 strikeouts in 194 career games (138 starts) over nine major-league seasons with Miami (2015-2020), Detroit (2021), Milwaukee (2022) and Colorado (2022-23). He originally was signed by the Marlins as an international free agent on May 29, 2009.

Cronin is 0-0 with an 11.74 ERA (10 ER/7.2 IP) and six strikeouts in six relief appearances this season with Chicago.

Following the moves, the White Sox 40-man roster increases to 40.
