KANSAS CITY – Prior to today’s split doubleheader at Kansas City, the Chicago White Sox announced the following four roster moves:
- Selected the contract of RHP Davis Martin from Class AAA Charlotte;
- Added RHP Kyle Crick from Charlotte as the 27th player for today’s doubleheader;
- Placed RHP Michael Kopech on the Paternity List;
- Transferred LHP Garrett Crochet to the 60-day injured list.
Martin, 25, will make his major-league debut as the starter for Game 2 tonight and wear uniform No. 65.
The 6-foot-1, 215-pound Martin is 4-1 with a 2.50 ERA (10 ER/36.0 IP), .221 (30-136) opponents average and 41 strikeouts in seven starts between Charlotte and Class AA Birmingham in 2022. He opened the season with the Barons and allowed two runs or less in four of his five starts before being promoted to the Knights on May 5. Martin is 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA (2 ER/12.0 IP) and eight strikeouts in two outings with Charlotte.
A native of Abilene, Texas, Martin is 17-19 with a 4.63 ERA (149 ER/289.2 IP) and 317 strikeouts (9.85 per 9.0 IP) in 66 career appearances (59 starts) over four minor-league seasons in the White Sox organization. He originally was selected by the Sox in the 14th round of the 2018 draft out of Texas Tech University.
Crick, 29, has made four scoreless and hitless relief appearances (4.0 IP) with the Knights. He is 1-0 with a 6.00 ERA (4 ER/6.0 IP), two holds and five strikeouts in seven relief appearances with Chicago this season.
Kopech, 26, is 0-1 with a 1.54 ERA (6 ER/35.0 IP), .137 (16-117) opponents average, 0.94 WHIP and 33 strikeouts in seven starts this season. He is eligible to return from the Paternity List after one day but may be on for as many as three.
Crochet, 22, will miss the entire 2022 season following ulnar collateral ligament replacement (“Tommy John”) surgery on his left elbow.
Following the moves, the White Sox 40-man roster remains at 40.
