CONFERENCE NEWS & NOTES
The Big 12 has four conference games this week while Baylor concludes the league’s regular season non-conference action against future Big 12 member BYU.
No. 4/3 Oklahoma and No. 12/12 Oklahoma State remain ranked in both national polls while Texas is at No. 25 in the AP. Baylor, Iowa
State and K-State are among the teams that received votes. Oklahoma and Oklahoma State are two of just 13 teams that remain undefeated on the season. OU’s 14-game win streak leads the nation while OSU’s 7-game streak is fifth.
The Big 12 has a .793 (23-6) win percentage in non-conference outings, good for second among FBS leagues. Four of the six losses
were to other autonomy leagues and four were to teams currently ranked in the AP Top 25.
Among FBS leagues, the Big 12 is first in scoring (33.5), rushing yards per game (181.73) and yards per play (6.37) in addition to having the toughest strength of schedule.
Sixty percent of Big 12 teams average over 440 yards of offense to rank in the top 38 of the FBS: 18. Texas (477.7), 21. Oklahoma (471.5), 26. Baylor (461.3), 28. Texas Tech (458.0), 34. TCU (446.2) and 38. Iowa State (442.0).
Half of Big 12 teams are in the top 20 nationally in rushing defense, allowing less than 103 yards a game on the ground: 7. K-State (86.4), 8. Oklahoma (87.5), 10. Iowa State (90.0), 12. Oklahoma State (91.0) and 20. West Virginia (102.2).
No. 11 Texas (242.8), No. 14 TCU (236.4) and No. 16 Baylor (227.5) average over 200 rushing yards a game to rank in the top 16 of the FBS.
Baylor is one of just two FBS teams (Ole Miss) that hasn’t thrown an interception.
Big 12 players of the week were awarded to Oklahoma’s Kennedy Brooks (offensive), Gabe Brkic (special teams) and Caleb Williams
(newcomer) along with TCU’s Tre’Vius Hodges-Tomlinson (defensive). Baylor QB Gerry Bohanon set single-game career highs in attempts (29), passing yards (336) and passing touchdowns (4) in the win over WVU. He has not thrown an interception this season in 145 pass attempts.
QB Brock Purdy became Iowa State’s first 10,000-yard passer in a career and joins five other players in Big 12 history to amass 10,000
passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards.
In its last game, Kansas rushed for 175 yards against the Cyclones, marking the most in a conference game on the road since Oct. 19,
2019, at Texas.
K-State RB Deuce Vaughn hauled in 10 passes for 104 yards and a touchdown vs. OU. It was the most receptions by a Wildcat in a game since Isaiah Zuber had 10 at West Virginia in 2018.
Oklahoma overcame a 21-point deficit (trailed 28-7) to mark its largest comeback victory in the series against Texas.
Since 2010, Oklahoma State is 7-4 against Texas and has won five of the last six in Austin.
TCU rushed for 394 yards at TTU, its highest total since running for 431 in 2016. Kendre Miller (185) and Zach Evans (143) both topped
100 yards rushing for the second time in the last six games.
Xavier Worthy’s 261 receiving yards vs. OU are second-most in program history and the most by a freshman. It was his second 100-
yard game of the season.
Texas Tech RB SaRodorick Thompson recorded three touchdowns in a game for the first time in his career.
West Virginia has found the end zone on its first offensive possession in five of six games this year.
The 2021 Dr Pepper Big 12 Championship is scheduled for Saturday, December 4 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Over the summer, the Big 12 and Dallas Cowboys announced a two-year extension that will keep the Championship game at AT&T Stadium through the 2023 season.
