The Big 12 closes out the final week of the regular season with all teams in conference action.
Oklahoma State has clinched the program’s first appearance in the Dr Pepper Big 12 Championship game. The final spot will come down to the final day of the season as the Cowboys will face either Baylor or Oklahoma. A win by OU at OSU will result in a Bedlam rematch in the Championship game. If OU loses to OSU and BU beats Texas Tech, the Bears will clinch a berth.
The Big 12 has three teams in the top 13 of the Nov. 16 CFP Poll with No. 9 Oklahoma State, No. 11 Baylor and No. 13 Oklahoma.
Sixty percent of Big 12 teams are bowl eligible. TCU and West Virginia need a win in their season finales to become eligible.
Every Big 12 team has a win in conference play.
The Big 12 finished the regular season with a .800 (24-6) win percentage in non-conference outings, good for second among FBS leagues. Four of the six losses were to other autonomy leagues.
Among FBS leagues, the Big 12 is first in pass completion percentage (64.9) and passer rating (146.1), and second in rushing yards (172.4) and yards per play (7.3).
Fifty percent of Big 12 defenses are allowing less than 123 yards a game on the ground to rank in the NCAA top 25: 4. Oklahoma State (85.8), 21. K-State (118.5), 22. Baylor (120.5), 23. Iowa State (121.2), 25. Oklahoma (122.4).
Forty percent of Big 12 teams are holding opponents to under 22 points a game to rank among the FBS top 30: 2. Oklahoma State (14.9), 16. Baylor (19.0), 27. K-State (21.0) and 30. Iowa State (21.2).
The Big 12 has sixty percent of teams in the top 25 of red zone offense, including the top two: 1. Oklahoma (.962), 2. Iowa State (.955), 8. Texas (.930), 15. West Virginia (.909), 16. Texas Tech (.907) and 25. Baylor (.896).
Big 12 players of the week were awarded to West Virginia’s Jarret Doege (offensive), Texas Tech’s Austin McNamara (special teams) and the Oklahoma trio of Jalen Redmond (defensive), Michael Turk (special teams) and Key Lawrence (newcomer).
Baylor’s Tresten Ebner played in his 58th career game, breaking Chris Platt’s program record of 57. With seven receptions against K-State, the super senior moved into a tie for most receptions by a RB in program history.
Iowa State RB Breece Hall tied the NCAA FBS record for consecutive games with a rushing touchdown at 23 (Bill Burnett, Arkansas, 1968-70). Hall has 52 total TDs in his last 31 games and ranks 10th in Big 12 records with 3,699 career rushing yards.
Kansas junior safety Kenny Logan Jr., totaled a career-high 15 tackles against TCU, including two TFL, bringing his career total to four TFL.
K-State sophomore RB Deuce Vaughn rushed for 128 yards and a TD on 11 carries vs. BU, improving his rushing total this season to 1,115 yards for the 17th 1,000-yard rushing season in school history.
Oklahoma’s Jalen Redmond recorded a 42-yard scoop-and-score touchdown which was OU’s longest fumble return for a TD in a home game by a defensive lineman since 1979.
Oklahoma State has won 79 consecutive games when holding its opponent to fewer than 20 points, dating back to Sept. 13, 2003. It’s the longest active stretch of time in the FBS and longest since at least 1980.
TCU scored for the 366th consecutive game, moving past Michigan (365, 1984-2014) for the second-longest streak in NCAA history.
WR Xavier Worthy’s 12 touchdown receptions this season are tied for the second-most in a season in Texas history and are the most since Jordan Shipley’s school-record 13 in 2009.
Texas Tech P Austin McNamara had eight punts that went 50+ yards, the most 50-plus yard punts by a Red Raider since Ryan Erxleben recorded four at Missouri in 2011.
West Virginia QB Jarret Doege passed Pat White to become fifth alltime in passing yards in Mountaineer history with 6,143.
