Conference News and Notes

The Big 12 closes out the final three weeks of the regular season with all teams in action each week in conference matchups.

The Big 12 had three teams in the top 12 of the first CFP Poll with No. 8 Oklahoma, No. 11 Oklahoma State and No. 12 Baylor.

Fifty percent of Big 12 teams have reached bowl eligibility, which is tied for the second-highest percentage among conferences. Big 12 bowl partners and their selection order are on page 2.

Oklahoma is among just four teams that remain undefeated and was the first to reach nine wins. The Sooners’ 17-game win streak leads the nation.

The Big 12 finished the regular season with a .800 (24-6) win percentage in non-conference outings, good for second among FBS leagues. Four of the six losses were to other autonomy leagues.

Among FBS leagues, the Big 12 is first in pass completion percentage (65.7), passer rating (1494.9) and yards per play (7.4). The Conference is second in scoring (31.0), rushing yards per game (172.8) and passing yards per completion (12.68).

Fifty percent of Big 12 teams are holding opponents to 23 or less points a game to rank among the FBS top 48: 9. Oklahoma State (16.3), 14. Iowa State (18.2), 27. Baylor (20.6), 30. K-State (21.6) and 48. West Virginia (23.0).

In addition to ranking in the top 14 for scoring defense, OSU is third (277.0) and Iowa State is fourth (282.4) in total defense.

Sixty percent of Big 12 offenses average over 31 points a game to rank in the nation’s top 45: 5. Oklahoma (42.9), 19. Baylor (36.3), 22. Texas (35.8), 34. Texas Tech (32.8), 39. Iowa State (31.9) and 45. TCU (31.3).

Fifty percent of Big 12 teams are in the FBS top 18 in red zone offense, scoring on over 91% of red zone opportunities: 2. Oklahoma (.979), 6. Iowa State (.943), tie 15. Texas and Texas Tech (.921), along with 18. Baylor (.919).

TCU was named the Cheez-It Bowl National Team of the Week after its 30-28 win over No. 12 Baylor.

Big 12 players of the week were awarded to the Iowa State duo of Will McDonald IV (defensive) and Andrew Mevis (special teams), along with TCU’s Chandler Morris (offensive) and Oklahoma State’s Jaylen Warren (newcomer).

Running back Abram Smith has achieved the 15th 1,000-yard rushing season in Baylor history (1,055), and its first since Terence Williams in 2016 (1, 048).

Iowa State’s Will McDonald IV broke the ISU career record with 27.5 sacks, passing JaQuan Bailey. McDonald has collected a sack in 18 of his last 24 games.

Kansas senior Kwamie Lassiter III moved into eighth in program history with 125 career receptions.

K-State sophomore running back Deuce Vaughn rushed 11 times for a career-high 162 yards and three touchdowns to go along with five catches for 60 yards in the win at KU.

Since 2014, Oklahoma is unbeaten in “Championship November” with 23 straight wins and 11 vs. Top 25 opponents. Under Lincoln Riley, OU is 14-0 in November with wins over six ranked opponents.

Oklahoma State held consecutive opponents without a touchdown for the first time since the final game of 1974 and first of 1975. It was the first time since 1948 and 1949 that OSU held consecutive conference opponents without a TD.

TCU QB Chandler Morris made his first career start and totaled 531 yards of offense (461 passing, 70 rushing), the second-best total in school history.

RB Bijan Robinson reached 1,000 rushing yards this season, the first Texas player to run for 1,000 yards since D’Onta Foreman in 2016.

Texas Tech has held its opponent under 100 yards rushing in six games this season. It’s the most times in a single season dating back to 2000.

QB Jarret Doege has 5,585 passing yards in his West Virginia career, good for No. 8 in program history
