The Washington Nationals reinstated right-handed pitcher Kyle Finnegan from the Paternity List and placed right-handed pitcher Kyle McGowin on the 10-day Injured List (retroactive to Sept. 1) with a right elbow UCL sprain on Friday. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.
Finnegan, 29, is 4-5 with six saves and a 2.77 ERA with 26 walks and 51 strikeouts in 55 relief appearances for the Nationals. His 55 appearances and 51 strikeouts are the most among Nationals relievers.
Prior to being placed on the Paternity List, Finnegan offered scoreless relief in seven straight outings and has allowed just one earned run in 18 appearances dating to July 20. During that span he converted six saves, five holds and pitched to a 0.51 ERA (1 ER/17.2 IP) with opponents hitting just .164 (10-for-61) with three doubles and one home run.
McGowin, 29, posted a 4.20 ERA in 27 relief appearances in 2021. He struck out 35 batters and walked 14 in 30.0 innings pitched.
