Washington Nationals pitcher Jorge López has received a three-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for intentionally throwing at Andrew McCutchen of the Pittsburgh Pirates in the bottom of the seventh inning of Wednesday night’s game at PNC Park. Michael Hill, Major League Baseball’s Senior Vice President for On-Field Operations, made the announcement.

The suspension of López had been scheduled to begin today, when the two Clubs are to conclude their series in Pittsburgh. However, López has elected to file an appeal. Thus, the discipline will be held in abeyance until that process is complete.

In addition, Nationals manager Dave Martinez has received a one-game suspension and an undisclosed fine as a result of López’s actions. Martinez will serve his suspension today.
