MILWAUKEE, WI – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have returned infielder Miguel Sanó from rehab assignment and reinstated him from the 60-day Injured List.
Sanó has missed the Twins’ last 75 games after undergoing knee surgery in early May. He played in 17 games for the Twins prior to going on the Injured List, hitting one home run and driving in three runs, with nine walks and one run scored. Recently, Sanó hit .333 (13-for-39) with three doubles, five home runs, 11 RBI, six walks, eight runs scored, a .422 on-base percentage and a 1.217 OPS in 12 games on rehab assignment with the FCL Twins and Triple-A St. Paul.
To make room for Sanó on the 26-man roster, the Twins have optioned outfielder Gilberto Celestino to Triple-A St. Paul. Celestino hit .268 (41-for-153) with seven doubles, one triple, eight RBI, 12 walks and 17 runs scored in 66 games.
To make room on the 40-man roster, the Twins have transferred left-handed pitcher Danny Coulombe to the 60-day Injured List. Coulombe was originally placed on the Injured List on May 28 with left hip impingement.
