“This is a defining moment in our franchise’s history,” said Mark Shapiro, President & CEO of the Blue Jays. “Vlad has been part of our family since he was just 16, and he has captured the hearts of our city and country. Few players can say they’ve spent over two decades with the same team, and we’re thrilled Blue Jays fans will get to see Vlad finish his career where it began. His name will forever be synonymous with the Toronto Blue Jays.”

Guerrero Jr., 26, was born in Montreal and signed with the Blue Jays at 16 before making his Major League debut at Rogers Centre on April 26, 2019, at the age of 20. Over seven seasons, the right-handed slugger has earned numerous accolades, including four All-Star selections (2021–2024), two Silver Slugger Awards (2021, 2024), a Hank Aaron Award (2021), a Gold Glove at first base (2022), All-Star Game MVP honors (2021), a Home Run Derby title (2023), and two Tip O’Neill Awards (2021, 2024). He is the youngest player ever to win the Hank Aaron Award and All-Star Game MVP, as well as the MLB record holder for most home runs by a player 22 or younger (48 in 2021).

Edward Rogers, Chair of the Blue Jays and Executive Chair of Rogers Communications, expressed his excitement about the deal, stating, “This is a commitment to building a championship team, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have Vlad’s leadership as one of the best in the game. Today is a win for our fans, who are truly the best in baseball.”
Since 2021, Guerrero Jr. has led the American League in hits (733) and ranks among the top five in total bases (2nd, 1,286), home runs (3rd, 136), doubles (3rd, 141), RBIs (3rd, 409), walks (3rd, 289), and extra-base hits (4th, 279). He also leads the Majors in hard-hit balls (1,097) during this period. His accomplishments have cemented his place among the sport’s elite players.

“I’ve always felt the support of our incredible Blue Jays fans, who make me feel appreciated every day,” Guerrero Jr. said. “Toronto is our second home, and my family and I are proud to continue my dad’s legacy while representing an entire country. Wearing the maple leaf means everything to me, and I’m committed to bringing World Series titles back to Canada.”

Ross Atkins, Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations & General Manager, highlighted Guerrero’s impact on the team and the city: “Franchise players like Vlad are rare, and his potential is unmatched. He’s already achieved great things, and his future is even brighter. His love for the game and his passion inspire everyone around him.”

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has rapidly established himself as one of the greatest players in franchise history. He holds records as the youngest Blue Jay to reach milestones such as 150 home runs, 500 RBIs, and multiple seasons with 40+ home runs and 100+ RBIs.

Among the team’s all-time leaders, he ranks 4th in slugging percentage (.498), 5th in OPS (.860), 6th in batting average (.287), 7th in on-base percentage (.362), and 8th in home runs (160). He is also the only Blue Jay to win a Gold Glove at first base and a Home Run Derby title, and he joins his father, Vladimir Guerrero Sr., as part of the only father-son duo to win the Derby crown.
