Kirk, 26, began his journey with the Blue Jays as an international free agent signing from Mexico in 2016 at just 17 years old. He steadily progressed through the organization’s system before making his MLB debut in 2020 at the age of 21. Over his five seasons with Toronto, the right-handed hitter has established himself as one of the premier catchers in the league. His accolades include being named an All-Star and winning a Silver Slugger award in 2022, as well as earning a Gold Glove finalist nod in 2023.

In 434 career games, Kirk has compiled a .264 batting average, 64 doubles, a triple, 36 home runs, 187 RBI, and a .735 OPS. Since 2022, he has led all Major League catchers in defensive runs saved (39) and accumulated an impressive 25 catcher framing runs. His consistency and defensive prowess are matched by his offensive contributions, ranking second among AL catchers (minimum 750 plate appearances) over the last three seasons in batting average (.265) and on-base percentage (.345). He also ranks third in runners caught stealing (54) and fifth in doubles (54).

In the 2024 season, the Tijuana, Mexico native achieved a personal milestone by throwing out 25 attempted base stealers, tying for second-most in the Majors and marking the highest single-season total by a Blue Jays catcher since Russell Martin’s performance in 2015.

Kirk’s continued development as both a defensive cornerstone and offensive contributor makes him a critical piece of the Blue Jays’ long-term plans. His presence solidifies Toronto’s catching depth as they build toward sustained success.

Please note that Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations & General Manager Ross Atkins, along with Alejandro Kirk, will be available for media interviews on Workout Day tomorrow (Wednesday, March 26).
