The Toronto Blue Jays have claimed RHP Brett de Geus off waivers from the Miami Marlins. de Geus has been optioned to Triple-A Buffalo.

Additionally, RHP Yerry Rodríguez has been designated for assignment.

de Geus, 26, has appeared in 11 games between Miami and Seattle this season, spending the majority of the campaign at Triple-A Jacksonville & Tacoma. Between the Majors and the Triple-A level, has posted a 5.60 ERA with a 7.9% walk rate, a 14.9% strikeout rate, and a 58.9% groundout rate in 47 combined appearances. The 6-2, 190 lb. right-handed reliever was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 33rd round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft out of Cabrillo Community College, eventually making his MLB debut with the Rangers in 2021. The Pleasanton, CA, native has made a total of 58 MLB appearances between the Rangers, Diamondbacks, Mariners, and Marlins, posting a 7.17 ERA over 59.0 innings with 47 strikeouts and a 53.6% groundball rate.
