CLEVELAND, OH – The Cleveland Guardians announced today the following transactions relative to the 2024 Major League roster:

Selected the contract of RHP Andrew Walters (#63) from AAA Columbus.

Placed RHP Alex Cobb (right third finger blister) on the 15-day Injured List, retroactive to Sept. 9.

Walters, 23, went 4-0 with a 2.32 ERA (13ER/50.1IP), 8 saves, 79 strikeouts and a 1.15 WHIP across 50 relief appearances between AA Akron (17G) and AAA Columbus (33G) this season, his first as a professional. The right-hander was promoted to Columbus on May 28 and fashioned a 2.97 ERA (10ER/30.1IP) with 41 strikeouts and 6 saves for the Clippers, ranking 10th among International League relievers (min. 30.0IP) with 12.16 SO/9.0IP since he was elevated to AAA. Walters has turned in 15-straight scoreless appearances since July 30 (12.2IP), fanning 16 batters while allowing just 5 hits (.116 BAA) during that span.

Selected 62nd overall (Competitive Balance Round B) by Cleveland in the 2023 MLB Draft out of University of Miami (FL), the Palm Bay, FL native is the first member of the Guardians 2023 draft class to join the Major League club, and 10th selection overall from the 2023 draft to reach the Majors. Tabbed by MLB.com as Cleveland’s 22nd-ranked prospect, the 6-4 reliever converted 26 saves in 3 seasons at Miami, including tallying 12 saves last spring (1.21 ERA) en route to consensus first-team All-American honors. Walters would be the 8th player drafted by Cleveland to make their MLB debut one-or-zero years after being selected in the June MLB Draft, first since Kyle Crockett in 2014 (drafted in 4th round of 2013 MLB Draft).
