The Texas Rangers have made roster adjustments ahead of Wednesday’s game against the Athletics at Globe Life Field.

Catcher Tucker Barnhart (#18) has been called up from Triple-A Round Rock.

  • Right-handed pitcher Dane Dunning has been designated for assignment.

Tucker Barnhart

Barnhart, 34, has been performing well at Triple-A Round Rock, posting a .246/.354/.391 slash line with 2 home runs, 4 doubles, 12 RBIs, and 10 runs scored across 20 games. He has started 18 games as a catcher and 2 as a designated hitter. Signed as a minor league free agent on December 19, 2024, Barnhart impressed during Spring Training with a .310 batting average in 14 Cactus League games. Since being assigned to Round Rock on March 26, he has reached base in 18 of his 20 games.

An 11-year MLB veteran, Barnhart has a career batting line of .241/.318/.351 with 53 home runs, 131 doubles, and 292 RBIs in 912 games. A two-time Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner (2017, 2020), he has been a reliable defensive presence, accruing 7.1 dWAR from 2016 to 2024. Originally drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 10th round of the 2009 MLB Draft, Barnhart hails from Brownsburg, Indiana.

Dane Dunning

The Rangers now have seven days to trade, release, or outright Dunning to the minors. The 30-year-old right-hander was recently called up from Round Rock and pitched three innings in relief during Tuesday’s 15-2 win over the Athletics, earning his first save of the season. Over his six-year MLB career, Dunning has compiled a 28-32 record with a 4.36 ERA, 520 strikeouts, and 215 walks in 125 games (102 starts). He was a key contributor to the Rangers’ 2023 World Series-winning campaign, earning the team’s Major League Pitcher of the Year honors that season.

Roster Status

Following these moves, the Rangers remain at the 40-man roster limit, with three players (Cody Bradford, Jon Gray, and Josh Sborz) currently on the 60-day Injured List.
