Santos is seeking his Major League debut

Miami, Florida — The Texas Rangers today announced the following transactions prior to this afternoon’s series finale against the Miami Marlins at loanDepot park.

  • RHP Winston Santos (#47) recalled from Double-A Frisco
  • RHP Jose Corniell optioned to Triple-A Round Rock

Santos, 24, has spent 2026 in the Frisco starting rotation, going 1-3 with a 7.44 ERA (35 ER/42.1 IP), 21 walks, and 58 strikeouts in 11 starts. Among pitchers with at least 10 starts, the Payita, Dominican Republic native has registered the 2nd-highest strikeouts-per-9.0 innings ratio in the Texas League at 12.33, behind only Seattle farmhand Kade Anderson (13.14). Tabbed as the 5th-ranked prospect in the Rangers system by MLB Pipeline, Santos began the year in Major League Spring Training camp for a second straight season but did not appear in any Cactus League games after a line-drive comebacker fractured his left hand in a live batting practice session on February 17. He returned to game action in Frisco’s second series of the campaign on April 9 vs. Midland.

Originally signed by the Rangers as a non-drafted free agent from the Dominican Republic on July 2, 2019, Santos has compiled a minor league record of 28-26 with a 4.74 ERA (216 ER/410.0 IP), 1.28 WHIP, and 454 strikeouts in 97 games (89 starts) since 2021. He pitched in the 2024 All-Star Futures Game at Globe Life Field and was the starting pitcher for the Texas prospects in the 2025 Spring Breakout Game vs. San Francisco in Scottsdale. Santos leads all pitchers in the Rangers chain in starts and wins since 2021.

Corniell, 23, was recalled on Sunday and made his 2026 Texas debut last night at Miami, allowing 5 runs over 3.1 innings and 69 pitches of relief in a loss against the Marlins. The right-hander has made one relief appearance for the Rangers in each of the last two seasons (also September 28, 2025 at Cleveland), his initial two outings in the Majors. Corniell returns to Round Rock where he owns a 6.08 ERA (18 ER/26.2 IP) in 7 games (6 starts) this year.

With today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with five players on the 60-day Injured List (RHP Carter Baumler, LHP’s Cody Bradford, Robert Garcia, and Jordan Montgomery, and INF/OF Michael Helman).
