Martin, 40, has missed Texas’ last 30 games with a right shoulder impingement

Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers announced the following transactions prior to today’s game against the Detroit Tigers at Globe Life Field:

  • Right handed pitcher Chris Martin activated from 15-day Injured List
  • Right-handed pitcher Jakob Junis placed on 15-day Injured List (right hip impingement), retroactive to July 1

Martin, 40, has missed Texas’ last 30 games while on the 15-day Injured List with a right shoulder impingement. He appeared in one contest on injury rehabilitation assignment with Double-A Frisco on Wednesday at Riders Field, tossing a scoreless 1st inning, including 2 strikeouts, on 14 pitches (10 strikes). The right-hander, in his 11th big league campaign, has appeared in 12 games this season for the Rangers, going 1-1 with a 7.84 ERA (9 ER/10.1 IP), 7 strikeouts, and 2 walks, having last appeared on May 30 vs. Kansas City (1.0 IP, 1 H, 2 R-ER, 1 HR, 1 BB, 0 SO). Martin’s next appearance for Texas will make him the 13th pitcher in club history aged 40-and-up to appear for the Rangers, and the first since Max Scherzer did so twice during the 2024 campaign.

The 33-year-old Junis most recently appeared on Monday at Cleveland, allowing one earned run on 2 hits with one strikeout over an inning of work in Texas’ 6-3 against the Guardians. For the season, the right-hander has gone 1-1 with 5 saves, 2.80 ERA (11 ER/35.1 IP), 6 walks, 27 strikeouts, 1.02 WHIP, and .224 opponent batting average (30-134) in 31 games/one start. Junis has entered in the 7th inning or later in 29 of his 30 relief appearances this season, most often coming on in the 8th inning (13 times). His team-leading 11 holds are tied for 13th in the American League, while his 5 saves are 2nd-most among Rangers (18-Latz). This marks Junis’ first appearance on an Injured List since 2024 with Milwaukee (right shoulder impingement).

With today’s transactions, the Rangers have 39 players on the club’s Major League roster, along with five players on the 60-day Injured List (RHP Carter Baumler, LHP’s Cody Bradford, Robert Garcia, and Jordan Montgomery, and INF/OF Michael Helman).
